One man dead, 6 injured in Russia’s Rosneft field fire, blast

MOSCOW, Jul 27 (PRIME) – One person died and six were injured in a fire that broke out after a blast at the Verkhnechonskoye field of Russian oil major Rosneft in the Irkutsk Region, a source in the region’s emergency services told PRIME Wednesday.

“According to preliminary data, one man was killed and another six injured,” the source said.

Another source said that the fire was put out shortly after, and the accident happened due to a backfire of a gas mixture.

Earlier on Wednesday, an eyewitness told PRIME that the blast happened at the field’s gas compressing station.

The company or legal authorities have not yet provided any comment on the matter.
